Dutch vinyl-only label Filament light up our lives again with another V/A concept EP that guides us gently through an entire night. And while the inaugural release took us through the hazy daze of an open air festival, 002 takes us back to the source… The dark sweaty basement where your best friends are your dancefloor neighbours, your dancing feet and fat speaker stack.

Three artists, one unified spirit that builds dynamically through the night: Russian bandleader Kito Jempere ignites the night with ‘11pm’. Teaming up with LovvLovver, the bass player from his band, together they lay down eight minutes of midtempo, hip-slinking hypnotic funk. Loose drums, full fat groove, it’s every bit the consummate night-warmer it needs to be.

Onward we slink and writhe into the sweetest hours of the night; ‘3am’ duties are taken care of by exciting new Aussie duo Donald’s House. Blazing off the back of their recent releases on Nick Hoppner’s Touch From A Distance, their contribution marks the peak of this nocturnal trip. Big slap bass, epic cosmic leads and an undulating bassline so fat it would make Moroder blush; this one works whatever hour you play it.

Finally we troop beyond the sunrise all the way to ‘6am’. Courtesy of Brazilian groovesmith Carrot Green, here we find ourselves floating all the way home on a bed handcrafted by Mr Fingers himself. Timeless, soft-focus, hopeful; the perfect soundtrack doesn’t just end the night… It leaves you wanting more.
